les mis book 2 chapter 7

In this chapter, Jean Valjean admits to his faults and that he knows he deserved to be punished. I like that he is honest and knows when to own up to his faults. I agree with him though that his punishment was too severe for the crime he committed.

les mis book 2 chapter 6

Here we learn more about Jean Valjean's life and damn is it sad. He lost so much, his parents and his sister. His sister being the person he was attached to the most. I couldn't imagine what that did to him. And to top it off, he went to jail. He probably felt so alone.

les mis book 2 chapter 5

This chapter was super short, but why was Jean Valjean being insulting to the bishop? One of the only people who has been kind to him? I was pretty disappointed that he did that not going to lie.

les mis book 2 chapter 4

We skimmed through most of this chapter so it was very short. Nothing really stood out to me besides the fact that Mademoiselle Baptistine helped Jean Valjean and gave him goatskin to keep him warm. I like how both the bishop and her are being kind to him.

les mis book 2 chapter 3

The bishop lets Jean Valjean into his home and lets him eat and sleep there. Jean Valjean expressed his gratitude and was so thankful that he had a place to stay. I'm glad the bishop helped him, although it was no surprise considering the good deeds he has done before. But I'm glad Jean Valjean was helped and I hope the bishop helps him more.

les mis book 2 chapter 2

In this chapter, Madame Magloire tries to warn the bishop and Mademoiselle Baptistine that Jean Valjean is bad news and that they shouldn't associate with him. Madame Magloire also tries to persuade the bishop to lock his door so that not anyone can just come into his home. I'm thinking that maybe Madame Magloire is worried Jean Valjean will do something bad to the bishop and his sister, because why else would she be concernced?

les mis book 2 chapter 1

We found out that the main character of the story isn't actually the bishop, but is actually Jean Valjean. This was a big surprise to me because this whole time we've been reading about the bishop and his life, just to find out that he isn't even the main character. Jean Valjean was a former inmate who was freed and was allowed to enter society again. He's been hoping to find someone who can help him. I hope that he is able to find someone when we continue reading.

final reflection for world literature 2020-2021

The pandemic has affected many things this semester.  There have been things that I've struggled with in this course. Lots of things regarding the pandemic as well that have been very different than what everyone is used to. Things like this course, being motivated, and the work itself just feel different this year. This course was definitely an experience, and an interesting one to say the least.      One thing that made this course feel different than any other course I've taken was just the feeling of comfort I got from this course. This feeling of comfort didn't necessarily come from the work, but more the people. I really enjoy the people in this class. The teacher (you, Dr. Preston) makes this class feel like no other class I'm in. I didn't really get that sense of pressure in this class like I do in my other ones. This class just felt more laid back (not in a lazy or bad way) and that's what I liked about it. One thing I love is the minute of mindfuln

thanks for your comments

Personally, I like receiving comments on my posts because it shows that people actually took time to read my post and say something about it. I also like to see different people's opinions on things I write because then I get to see it from a different point of view other than my own.

les mis today

I think a connection that I can make between Les Mis and modern America is the wealthy people. In America, money is so important. Whether you're rich, poor, or middle class, money is important to you. Lots of wealthy people here in the United States are stingy and would rather not give their money away. Even though the right thing for them to do is give back to those who need it most, they'd rather keep the money they have for themselves. It's really sad to see people be tight with their money, especially if they have lots of it. In Les Mis, the bishop talked to an aristocrat who didn't care to donate any of his money to the hungry or poor who needed it more than he did. The bishop didn't like how this man had lots of money and still refused to give even some of it away. I see that a lot in modern times with celebrities and billionaires.

les mis part 1 summary

What we've read so far in Les Mis is a lot about the bishop and the life that he chose to live. In the beginning, he had anything he could ever ask for. Then, sadly, he lost it all. He even lost his wife. After this sad ordeal happened to the him, he decided to move to Italy and start a new life. Here, he became a bishop in the Catholic church. He changed his ways of living and turned into this new person who was kind, caring, giving, selfless, and humble.      The bishop did many kind and thoughtful things for people, some who may not have even deserved it. The bishop became a man who wasn't materialistic, and was humble. He did kind acts like giving almost all of his money to the poor and needy. He let people who didn't have a place to go sleep in his house. He didn't even keep a lock on his front door so that it allowed anyone to come in and seek shelter if they needed to. The things like these that he did had a great and positive impact on people.     The bisho
