This chapter was super short, but why was Jean Valjean being insulting to the bishop? One of the only people who has been kind to him? I was pretty disappointed that he did that not going to lie.
Here we learn more about Jean Valjean's life and damn is it sad. He lost so much, his parents and his sister. His sister being the person he was attached to the most. I couldn't imagine what that did to him. And to top it off, he went to jail. He probably felt so alone.
In this chapter, I learned that the bishop is brave. He fought and took on those criminals by himself without showing a hint of fear. Even if he was scared, he took those criminals on with courage and determination. I really admire him for that because I wouldn't have been able to do what he did. 1, I'm not a brave person and I probably would've ran away, and 2, I can't fight.
While reading this chapter it showed me how kind, giving, and selfless the bishop is. He seems like the type of person to put other peoples' comforts before his own. A man like him deserves respect for everything he has done for the people around him. I can tell that he's not a materialistic person at all and that money means nothing to him, he'd rather do things for the people around him and know that they're satisfied.
